It has been estimated that about half of the homes in Colorado have high radon levels, and between 70-90 percent of homes in the mountains, such as Woodland Park, Divide, Florissant, and on, are very high. Teller County is one of the highest in the State, and the Country.
Radon is a naturally occurring radioactive gas that comes from the breakdown of Uranium in the soil.
It’s completely safe outdoors and is immediately diluted. But, the radon coming up from under a home, school, office building, apartment, or any structure built on the ground, is contained and concentrated within that structure.
When radon breaks down, tiny sub-atomic particles shoot off of the atom. These particles can actually be measured by the tiny craters they leave in a bit of Teflon within the test device. The higher the concentration of radon in a home means more of these particles there are to decay, and the more radiation your lungs could be exposed to.
When radon breaks down within your lungs, DNA damage can result.
Your skin is constantly bombarded with radiation from sun, but has a layer of dead cells to protect it, because your lungs do not have a protective layer over the living cells they are composed of, they are more susceptible to damage from atomic particles.
This is why radon specifically causes lung cancer.
Unless your home already has a properly installed and tested mitigation system, it’s highly likely that it has elevated radon levels. A majority of homes in and around Colorado Springs, Woodland Park, Florissant, Fairplay, etc., and anywhere in the mountains are susceptible to high radon due to the geology, and trace elements in the rock and soil.
An average Colorado home is equal 200 chest X-rays per year in radiation exposure.
Test your home for radon!
It’s very easy and inexpensive to test your home for radon . And if the results are high, the problem can always be resolved.
Even if your home has a mitigation system, test. A frighteningly large percentage of our work is replacing existing systems, of which most, hadn’t worked since installation. While most we replace are only a few months or years old, some of these systems are 20+ years old.
Radon affects people’s health, and there are quantifiable radon measurements that have to be met, with a specific (good/not good) threshold. When a customer is depending on a professional for an expected result, that expectation needs to be met.
So after decades of non- regulated, bad radon mitigation system installations, Colorado will become a regulated State starting on 7/1/22. What this means, is that all contractors preforming radon mitigation will be required to have passed the National Radon Proficiency Program exam, be certified, and have acquired a state license for radon mitigation and/or testing
We set a new standard for quality workmanship, professional installation, system performance, aesthetics, and value.
WHY CRONUS IS BETTER
CRONUS RADON SYSTEMS MAKES THE INSTALLATION PROCESS QUICK, EASY, CLEAN,
AND WE DO IT AT THE BEST PRICE!
Because quality and results are our first priority, we use the best tools and the best parts available. We have even gone so far as to create our own CAD designed, specialty radon components. (Now available to radon mitigators across the county! click HERE to see the lineup)
We exclusively use premium quality Fantech or Radonaway radon mitigation fans on all of our systems, and mitigation system specific, soft rubber LDVI vibration isolating fan couplers. Not the hardware store plumbing couplings that are typically used.
BETTER EQUIPMENT MEANS A BETTER INSTALLATION.
We a use wet diamond concrete coring machine, so that there’s no dust, and very little noise when we drill through concrete. It’s very delicate and precise, while being very fast at coring even a 12”+ stem wall with rebar reinforcement.
The standard mitigator tool is a rotary hammer, which is basically like it sounds, a spinning jackhammer. They’re really loud, make tons of dust, aren’t very fast, sound like your house is being torn down, and can’t go through steel rebar. Which means time wasted to cut the rebar (which can be a very difficult feat), and an ugly hole.
We use better equipment.
Our concrete coring equipment is clean, fast, delicate, and goes through rebar like butter.
It’s so dust free, that our Techs don’t even have to wear a respirator while drilling, and you don’t have to worry about a coating of dust throughout your house!
The time we can save doing something simple, like drilling a hole, allows more time dedicated to every other important aspect of your radon mitigation system installation.
There is really not much fundamental difference in the various methods that radon mitigation systems can be installed. If you pay a lot or a little does not change the basic scope of work that will be required to make the system work properly. There is nothing that can be that special, or parts that can be used, to justify a very expensive estimate.
Yes, thicker vapor barrier material will cost more, bigger fans cost more, multiple systems will cost more, more square footage usually will cost more, but there is nothing you’ll get out of paying an over the top premium. However, you almost certainly don’t want to go with the cheapest estimate.
We all use the same part distributors, and mitigation systems only work in so many ways. On the other hand, a very low estimate may skimp on quality of materials, aesthetics, and time they’re willing to invest if things don’t work right the first time, etc.
Above are the two types of 4” PVC fitting sizes available. On the left is Schedule 20/35 (from a poorly installed, non performing system that we replaced), and on the right is Schedule 40. The thin parts are used because they’re cheap. They only cost about 1/3 the of the proper material, and what is actually required for a radon mitigation system to meet AARST Standards.
Watch out for improper, cheap, material use.
This is why you want to stay away from the discount, “affordable” type companies. You’re actually getting less than what you’re paying for.
If your radon mitigation system was installed with the thin, weak parts on the left, it was not installed to Standard. It doesn’t mean that it’s not working, but it indicates that whoever installed it is not really concerned with how long your system lasts, and likely invested the least amount possible. And with the new laws in Colorado, you can demand to have the installer replace it with the proper material.
It’s likely not coincidental that most of the systems we have to replace are built with Schedule 35 pipe.
But don’t worry, we can fix your old system too!
We’ll match or beat any other reasonable offer! -
Plus, we’ll install a quality system (that looks good), built with quality AARST approved materials, a dedication to true low radon levels, and we’ll get it installed quickly.
Cronus Kills Radon!
For a radon mitigation company, it only seemed more than suiting to take the name of the Titan that destroys Ouranos. (Uranus -> Uranium )
If you know Greek Mythology, you know exactly what we’ll do about your radon problem.
If you’re selling your home and need to correct the radon prior to closing, don’t worry!
We’ll get the job done, and take payment at closing.
We can get it done quickly, with quality work, at a great price, and guaranteed results. Your buyers can also rest assured knowing that if problems should arise in the future their radon mitigation system is backed by a lifetime warranty.
